Biennial Foundation legally established in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

On 12 November 2009 the Biennial Foundation, in artistic development since March 2008,
has been legally established by civil-law notary Mr. Sabine van Suijdam, in Amsterdam (NL).
In the foundation’s Articles of Association, the following is described:

The Biennial Foundation aims to:

  • promote the mutual collaboration and communication between the various contemporary art biennials in the world and to initiate and conduct activities that are conducive to the promotion of biennial knowledge in the broadest sense of the words.
  • undertake all other activities that are related or may be conducive to the foregoing in the broadest sense.

In order to achieve these goals,
the Biennial Foundation:

  • offers a service platform and knowledge center for contemporary art biennials to its public by means of cross media activities and productions, which includes: -organizing conferences and workshops ; -conducting research; -exchanging information and knowledge as well as initiating contacts between the various biennials ; -carrying out and distributing publications.
  • makes available resources to achieve the aforementioned objects.
  • raises funds, accepts gifts and applies those funds and gifts for the aforementioned activities.
  • consults and collaborates with organizations that support the aforementioned activities.
  • designs and distributes promotional material.
  • maintains a website.

The Administrative Board consists of a group
of experts, which will be closely involved in the strategic management: Marieke van Hal (President), Nikos Ververidis (Treasurer), Venetia Giannisi (Board), Victor N. de Vries (Board), Maria Ververidou (Board).
The Advisory Committee consists of international biennial directors and curators. They will be officially announced shortly.
