Dak’Art, Biennale de l’Art Africain Contemporain is an international artistic event devoted to African visual Arts. The main event of the biennial is the International Exhibition of Contemporary African Art. Every African and African Diaspora artist can apply for participation at the General Secretariat. In addition there are several curated Individual Exhibitions.
The General Secretariat de la Biennale de Dakar has published the Statistics of the applications for Dak’Art 2012. The candidacy concerned exclusively the African artists and African Diaspora artists. Applications are closed since the 20th of december 2011.
The Secretariat received a total of 328 Dossiers from 57 countries. 283 dossiers were sent from 36 African countries (65 of them from Senegal). 42 dossiers were sent from 21 other countries. Interesting the proportion of gender: 231 applications were submitted by male artists, 97 applications by female artists.
The selection of the works presented at the International Exhibitions is made by an International Selection Committee composed of highly qualified specialists. An international Jury is in charge of awarding the different Dak’Art prizes. The selection of the artists for the Individual Exhibitions is entrusted to a curator.
Dak’Art 2012 will take place from 11 May to 10 June 2012.
