The 15th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2012 will be organised by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts of Bangladesh) to assemble and display contemporary works of Asia, the Pacific region and some other regions beyond. It will be a month-long exhibition of paintings, sculptures, graphics, installation and mixed media. The 15th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2012 will begin in Dhaka on 01 December, 2012.
Countries invited for participation in the 15th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh 2012 will be responsible for the selection of quality works of their artists that best represent the contemporary trends and practices in those countries.
A two-day Seminar “Crosspolination and Regional Perspectives” will be organised on 02 and 03 December 2012.
Artistic productions of our age are now more and more becoming a way for the artists to address multiplicity of conceptual/cultural positions as well as ideas and perspectives that plumb changing realities. Today’s art is mostly determined by individual’s ability to assimilate diverse and at times even conflicting cultural traits. The paper will argue that cross-pollination which seems to be the norm today had always existed and played an important role in the making of the cultural landscape of this region, which will help bring into focus the regional perspectives on art adequately demonstrating the fact that most creative individuals of today draw equally from the local realities and present global surge for the new methods and media.
Each participating country will nominate one representative for the Seminar who will read a paper (not exceeding 10 minute reading time) on the given subject, if possible with multimedia projection. Participating representative for the Seminar will have to reach Dhaka by 31 November 2012. Travel expenses of the representative will be borne by the participating country. Local hospitality for seven days will be provided by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The participating countries are requested to send their seminar papers by 31 October 2012. The seminar papers may be sent by E-mail to: bsafa@dhaka.net, info@bangladeshbiennale.org by fax to +88-02-9550602 or by courier service.
