World Biennial Forum No 2
November 26th- 30th, 2014
31st Bienal de São Paulo, Brazil
Marieke van Hal, Director of Biennial Foundation: “We are pleased to have found new partners for our World Biennial Forum No 2 in Brazil. I’ve always been impressed by the Bienal de Sâo Paulo functioning to serve the whole community. Brazil is economically thriving and growing, but still striving to deepen its democracy and include more people in the benefits of its growth. The Bienal de Sâo Paulo stands out internationally in expanding access to the world of art for a diversified public by enabling people of a range of ages, social classes and cultural levels to take part in the biennial’s activity. I’m curious to learn in what way the Brazilian biennial can serve as an example and inspiration for other biennial makers in the world.”
The World Biennial Forum is Biennial Foundation’s most important activity. The WBF diffuses knowledge and promotes public awareness of contemporary art biennials focusing on their shared objectives and common practices while acknowledging and celebrating their diversity.
The World Biennial Forum No 1 was organized with the Gwangju Biennale, and Ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen, and took place at the occasion of the 9th Gwangju Biennale in 2012 in Gwangju and Seoul, South Korea. The World Biennial Forum No 1 was co- directed by Ute Meta Bauer and Hou Hanru, titled ‘Shifiting Gravity’.
