Filip Markiewicz and his project Paradiso Lussemburgo have been chosen to represent Luxembourg at the Venice Biennale contermporary art festival next year.

Markiewicz was chosen from 17 proposals by a jury composed of Muhka director Bart de Baere, artist Martine Feipel, art critic and curator Paul di Felice, Culture Ministry rep Claudine Hemmer, and Mudam director Enrico Lunghi.

The jury selected Filip Markiewicz’s project, as it proposes a complex analysis of contemporary realities, especially in Luxembourg, using different disciplines, such as drawing, installation, video and performance.

Using contemporary images and collective work, the project’s potential for sociability with multiple points of entry for the viewer was also praised.

Born in 1980 in Esch/Alzette, Markiewicz studied in Strasbourg and now lives and works both in Germany and Luxembourg.

Markiewicz will present his project “Paradiso Lussemburgo,” which integrates drawing, installation, video, and performance, at the Cà del Duca. Luxembourg’s modern art museum Mudam will curate.
