The Marketing Manager is responsible for planning, execution and evaluation of marketing and communication strategies for the Biennale.
Excellent negotiation, communication and people skills are essential, as is ability to work closely and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders – from artists, venues, sponsors, benefactors and funders to the Board and staff.
Strong writing and presentation skills are required for the execution of the marketing campaign, as well as correspondence and funding pitches to sponsors, stakeholders and government.
Excellent project management and organisational skills are required for the delivery of a targeted marketing campaign, encompassing publicity, advertising, signage and digital.

Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellow
Applications are now open for the Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellowship, providing a rare opportunity for an emerging curator to be mentored by Stephanie Rosenthal, Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016).
In partnership with the Biennale of Sydney, the Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellowship was established in 2011 by the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts. The fellowship celebrates the memory of Nick Waterlow OAM (1941–2009) and the extraordinary contribution he made to Australian and international contemporary visual arts.

The Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellowship was established in 2011 by the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with the Biennale of Sydney to celebrate the memory of Nick Waterlow OAM (1941–2009) and the extraordinary contribution he made to Australian and international contemporary visual arts.
Nick Waterlow was the Biennale’s most prolific artistic director. He curated the 1979, 1986 and 1988 exhibitions, and was Chair of the International Selection Committee in 2000. For 11 years (1994–2005), Nick Waterlow also served on the Board of the Biennale of Sydney. From 1980–83, Nick Waterlow was also the Director of the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council.
The Fellowship is an opportunity to be awarded to an Australian emerging curator who will be mentored by Stephanie Rosenthal, Artistic Director of the 20th Biennale of Sydney (2016).
The Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellow is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the Artistic Director’s research, which includes research and writing content for the catalogue and guidebook, as well as working as part of the exhibition team on the planning, administration, development and delivery of the exhibition.
The position offers an emerging curator the rare opportunity to be part of a small, highly motivated team while performing curatorial tasks, working alongside other departments and communicating with artists, collectors and arts professionals. The Fellow will assist in the coordination of exhibition programming and contemporary artists’ projects.
The position works closely with the Artistic Director, Head of Exhibition, Deputy Head of Exhibition, Curatorial and Research Coordinator, Exhibition and Venue Manager, Registrar and the team at the Biennale of Sydney. The Nick Waterlow OAM Curatorial Fellow reports directly to the Head of Exhibition.
The Director of the Visual Arts section of the Australia Council will be present at the interviews and prior to the official appointment, the preferred candidate will be approved by the Director.
This is a two-year, full-time Fellowship related to the 2016 event for the period from 5 January 2015 to 30 December 2016. The remuneration is $55,000 per annum (including 9.5% employer’s superannuation contribution).
