Borås International Sculpture Biennale 2016
Dates: May 20th – September 18th.
Inauguration: May 20th at 1 pm on the main square, Borås.
This year’s Biennale will be located on three different sites in Borås, Sweden: the main square in the city centre, in the housing area of Norrby and in a vacant old industrial lot. The Biennial consists of around fifteen sculptures by artists from Finland, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Sweden and USA. Artworks that will make us reflect on the transformation of the city and how art changes our notion of public space.
There is a wide range of artistic expression. Including works that span from traditional classical sculpture dated in the sixties from the Borås City art collection, and warrior sculpture ”Herculine” by Linnéa Carlsson to a brand new sound work by artist duo Gideonsson/Londré.” The Flat Field Works (Middelheim Version #1)” by the American artist Andrea Zittel will form a new meeting place in housing area of Norrby. Outside an apartment building in the area ”Untitled” by Sirous Namazi, which consists of a white picket fence, refers to the borders between public and private spheres as well as between cultures and countries/nations.
During the Biennale May 20 – September 18 the inflatable sculpture ”You and me forever” by Merja Puustinen and Andy Best will tour preschools of Borås City. It will also be shown to the public on a few occasions. The artist Mounira Al Solh from Lebanon participates both in the Biennale and as Artist in Residence during august.
