Cecilia Alemani has been announced as the curator of the Italian Pavilion for the 57th edition of the Venice Biennale, due to open in May 2017.

Alemani has been the Donald R. Mullen, Jr. director and chief curator of High Line Art since 2011, where she’s produced and exhibited work by more than two hundred artists. She is also the curator of Frieze Projects at Frieze New York.

Alemani’s husband, Massimiliano Gioni, was the Venice Biennale’s artistic director for its 55th edition in 2013—a position that Christine Marcel will fill for the upcoming edition.
