Yokohama Triennale 2017: dates and conception meeting announced

The Organizing Committee for Yokohama Triennale has announced that the 6th edition of Yokohama Triennale will be held from August 4, 2017 to November 5, 2017.

The Yokohama Museum of Art and Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse No. 1 will serve as the main venues for the exhibition.

According to the Organizing Committee, the 6th edition will offer more than a mere ‘visual’ experience – it will provide an active forum of exchange on a multitude of ideas. The aim is to encourage dialogs and discussions and develop an environment for sharing and co-existence. The organizers wish to explore how exhibitions of this kind can evolve in the future.

Nine professionals from diverse disciplines and generations will convene for a conception meeting to discuss the values that are likely to shape the future of the Yokohama Triennale:

Suhanya RAFFEL – Deputy Director and Director of Collections, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australia;

Sputniko! – Artist, MIT Media Lab Assistant Professor;

TAKASHINA Shuji – Art Historian, Director of Ohara Museum of Art, Professor Emeritus at The University of Tokyo;

Rirkrit TIRAVANIJA – Artist, Professor at Columbia University School of the Arts;

WASHIDA Kiyokazu – Philosopher, President of Kyoto City University of Arts, Director of sendai mediatheque;

YORO Takeshi – Anatomist, Professor Emeritus at The University of Tokyo;

OSAKA Eriko – Director of Yokohama Museum of Art;

MIKI Akiko – Curator, International Artistic Director of Benesse Art Site Naoshima;

KASHIWAGI Tomoh – Project Director at Yokohama Museum of Art.

The outcomes of the meeting, including conceptual framework for the 6th edition of Yokohama Triennale will be announced this fall.
