Prospect Executive Director

Prospect New Orleans (“PNO”) seeks a highly motivated and dynamic Executive Director (“ED”) with a strong contemporary art background and professional experience directing a visual arts nonprofit organization. The ED position is based in New Orleans, Louisiana, where the organization operates. The desired start date is January 2018.

Essential Responsibilities: The ED is responsible for overseeing all operations connected with presentation of Prospect New Orleans, the internationally acclaimed triennial exhibition now in its fourth iteration, “P4, The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp,” opening November 2017. The ED’s practical duties include budgeting and fundraising for the project, financial management, overseeing the work of the PNO Artistic Director and staff, collaborating with PNO’s many exhibition venues, partnering arts organizations and community stakeholders, creating educational programming, overseeing production of the exhibition catalogue, marketing, communications and social media.

The ED also provides vision and leadership for the organization’s growth, visibility, long-term sustainability and critical success. This requires close collaboration with PNO’s Board of Directors, Artistic Director, Development Director and full-time staff to shape long-range goals which support the organization’s mission and purpose. To that end, the ED is expected to develop fundraising strategies and actively seek sources of income for an operating budget in the range of $4-$5 million per exhibition cycle.

Position Requirements: Candidates must have a minimum five years of experience in the management of a nonprofit arts-based organization; an advanced degree and/or significant experience-based knowledge in the field of contemporary art; a strong record of fundraising; excellent leadership, problem solving, organizational, financial/budgeting, negotiating and administrative skills; and strong interpersonal and oral/written communications skills, including public speaking.
