The TRIO Biennial – Three-Dimensional Rio International Biennial, was born as a proposal for Rio de Janeiro, and in its first edition in 2015, brought together 154 artists from 45 countries and received during the 2 months that it was open in 9 museums and institutions of the city, an audience of 215 thousand people, 30 thousand of these visitors, children of public education networks, in the educational projects of the shows.

In its second edition, the biennial that presents works in various supports, but always three-dimensional, being the only one in its profile among the biennials of the world, brings together about 50 Brazilian and international artists, to speak of a moment of systemic crisis, humanist and democratic bases in the scope of the freedoms of expression and individual rights.

Under the theme “Dress the World!”, curator Alexandre Murucci calls on artists to show that the feeling of dressing the world means dressing commitments, dressing longings, dressing the essential elements of our existence, our relationship with the world, with a planet in conflict, in danger, in emergencies that require us to position ourselves facing daily responsibilities.

The exhibition is divided into 3 modules related to elements of nature – seen by their symbolic coefficients: “Air” – representing culture, knowledge, history and our zeal for the Past. The inheritance of the human; “Water” – which represents the atavistic forces of nature, our commitment to the Future; and “Earth” – which represents the spirit, the telluric force that governs the Present, in all the soul forms of life.

The 2nd TRIO Biennial opened on December 17 in the City of Arts, Rio’s architectural icon, under the signature of French architect Christian de Portzamparc and on December 22 at the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, which for the first time in its bicentennial history, receives an exhibition of contemporary art in its Arboretum, opening the year of commemorations of its 210 years.
