Kunsthal Aarhus
“Open Curating – the Contemporary Art Biennale as Form”
Deadline: 12 June 2015.
The position begins on 1 September 2015 and continues until 31 August 2018.
Applications are invited for a three-year practice-based postdoc position to develop a research project entitled “Open Curating – the Contemporary Art Biennale as Form”.
Research
The research field engages with the new curatorial strategies of contemporary art institutions and the breakdown of clear borders between intellectual, artistic and curatorial work. It aims to investigate how art institutions operate critically and connect to global discourses that define the framework and conditions of contemporary art, and in particular to address the rise of the biennale form.
The study of this field must aim at the practical aspects of curating and be able to support the development of a large public presentation of contemporary art within the framework of Kunsthal Aarhus’s artistic programme for Aarhus as European Capital of Culture in 2017, in collaboration with Aarhus University.
Qualifications and person specification:
Applicants must have completed a PhD in a relevant field.
Knowledge of practical curating will be considered an advantage.
The successful candidate will become part of the staff at the Department of Aesthetics and Communication, while working closely with Kunsthal Aarhus. The postdoc project will also be affiliated with the recently approved international professional Master’s degree programme in Curating at the School of Aesthetics and Communication.
