Glasgow International is delighted to announce that the next edition of the festival will take place Friday, June 7–Sunday, June 23, 2024.

Ahead of that, we are currently inviting applications for the role of Festival Director, to lead the festival through the next edition.

We are recruiting a Festival Director for Glasgow International to join our 3,000 strong team of dedicated staff and volunteers.

Glasgow International is Scotland’s largest biennial festival for contemporary art, taking place over 18 days across the city of Glasgow. Renowned as a centre for contemporary art, the festival draws on the city’s strengths as a vibrant and distinctive centre of artistic production and display. Combining the characteristics of a visual arts biennial with an open submission model for artists and curators based in the city, GI is a truly unique event in the European cultural calendar.

The successful candidate will

• provide key leadership in taking forward the delivery of Glasgow International, collaborating with Glasgow’s contemporary visual art sector, stakeholders, and other national and International partners to realise the ambition of Scotland’s biennial festival of contemporary visual art.

• lead on the creative and strategic direction, artistic vision and operational delivery of Glasgow International, ensuring the festival delivers agreed milestones on time and in budget across Glasgow International 2024. The role includes supporting the festival to embed influential and visible diversity at the centre of creative and artistic practice and activity across Glasgow Life, by centring the work of black artists & artists of colour.

Glasgow International sits amongst a series of festivals, events and community-based programme which sit in Glasgow Life’s Arts, Music and Cultural Venues (AMCV) portfolio.

The post holder will have the responsibility of steering and developing an anti-racist organisational culture in collaboration with staff. The successful candidate must have an understanding of the lived experiences of black people and/or people of colour, and we are therefore actively encouraging applications from black people and people of colour.
