The biennials so far (starting in 2005) have built a communication platform for international art scenes in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
In quest for the possibility of establishing an art exhibition system at international level, the biennial operates in accordance with international practices, and has inject a new variety into Shenzhen and Hong Kong city as well as the contemporary art scenes, contributing beneficial attempts for forging a cultural brand for Shenzhen and improving cultural competitiveness of the city. Themes orient themselves around the city and urbanization.
The SZHKB – Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture has invented an innovative, dual-city mode of operation, which may be summarized as “Two Cities, One Biennale”. The biennial’s approach has torn down barriers set up by traditional biennials, thus lending a democratic tinge to the entire SZHKB exhibition and enterprise.
In 2013, based on mutual agreement between Hong Kong and Shenzhen Organizers, the Project has been officially renamed as Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong) UABB (HK).
