Ars is one of the oldest recurring exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe. It has been taking place in Finland since 1961. This major international survey of contemporary art has been organised with various intervals and locations including Helsinki, but also Turku , Tampere , Hämeenlinna and Jyväskylä.
Until 1995 Ars was held in the Ateneum Art Museum and subsequently at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki. Between 1961 and 2011, a total of seven Ars exhibitions took place with more than one million visitors and over 600 works presented to the public.
