Temporary Test Sites in the central city of Melbourne give artists, curators and organisations the opportunity to explore and experiment with creative ideas for the public realm, with seed funds, advice and mentoring from experienced artists, and practical support.
Every two years the Melbourne Biennial Lab invites a selection of early mid-career artists to develop temporary artworks for nominated sites within the municipality. These will be experimental, can last a day or up to a year, and will involve the public and arts community in conversation through various events. Renowned arts leader Natalie King has been appointed as Chief Curator of the inaugural Melbourne Biennial Lab.
Each year the Lab offers a Public Realm Fellowship that connects mid-to-late career artists to important spaces, events or activities on the City of Melbourne’s calendar.
